A SCHOOL WHERE ARTISTS ARE RAISED AND BORN

During the third week of March, we hosted the IB Visual Arts Exhibition, and it was a true pleasure to see our students’ hard work brought to life. On the morning of the opening day, students and teachers from every year group visited the exhibition, taking time to observe and appreciate the artwork on display. Numerous works prompted contemplation of profound themes, such as immigration, aging, the depiction of the female form, the fashion industry, death, cultural diversity, and consumerism.

The 4th Floor became exceptionally welcoming in the afternoon when parents arrived. Complimentary snacks and drinks allowed families to mingle and enjoy the exhibition at their leisure. Our students are exceptionally gifted, and we are immensely proud of our emerging creatives.

How to Recharge Before IB Exams

Spring break often arrives at a critical juncture for IB students: the calm before the storm. With exams just weeks away, many feel pulled torn between relaxation and obligation, finding it difficult to stop working and relax. However, pausing to reset is vital, not just beneficial.

The International Baccalaureate’s rigorous curriculum imposes unrelenting pressure, strict deadlines, and lofty standards, which can lead to burnout and disengagement. Using this break to prioritize well-being can help students return with a clearer focus and increased stamina. In a culture obsessed with output, mastering the art of the pause is a crucial competence.

This raises an important question: how can students use this time to fostering holistic success (academic achievement + personal health)?

More specifically, what does it really mean to “recharge” during a crunch period? How can students achieve study-life equilibrium? Additionally, how can they juggle it all without remorse? And what daily rituals can help rejuvenate and restore their energy?

What does “recharging” actually mean?

Recharging means actively restoring your mental and physical energy so you can return to studying more focused and motivated. It’s not just doing nothing, but stepping away from constant pressure, improving your sleep, and spending time on low-stress activities you enjoy. For IB students, this might mean taking a few days off work, going outside, or reconnecting with friends, giving your brain space to reset.

Should students rest or study during spring break?

The most effective approach is a balance, but with rest coming first. Taking a few days completely off helps reduce burnout, while adding light, structured study later in the break helps maintain momentum. Studying for a few hours a day, focusing on review rather than new content, can keep you on track without overwhelming you.

How can students balance productivity and rest without guilt?

Guilt often comes from feeling like you should always be working. Setting clear limits, like a few focused study hours per day, helps create a sense of control. When rest is planned and intentional, it becomes part of your productivity rather than something that takes away from it. In reality, rest improves focus, memory, and efficiency.

What daily habits help restore energy?

Simple habits can make a big difference. Getting enough sleep, moving your body each day, and taking regular breaks all help reduce stress and improve concentration. Staying hydrated, eating regularly, and taking short mental breaks, like going outside or disconnecting from screens, can also help you feel more refreshed and balanced.
