In celebration of International Women’s Day, our DP students took part in a special assembly honoring the remarkable women who have shaped history and those who inspire us in our daily lives. Through presentations and reflections, they explored how far society has come in advancing gender equality while also recognizing the further milestones still to be achieved.

COMING SOON
Just a friendly reminder about our Easter Camp which will take place from 6–10 April, as the dates are fast approaching. The camp will be held at our school from 8:30 to 17:00 each day and we welcome children aged 4 to 12 years old.
It is not only open to current students but also to children who are not enrolled at the school, so feel free to share the information with friends who may be interested.
The day will start with varied sporting activities, including basketball, football, gymnastics, capoeira, table tennis, and skateboarding.
In the afternoons, children will take part in creative and engaging activities, such as arts and crafts, face painting, an Easter egg hunt, and other productions and performances. We will also be welcoming a special guest during the week.
The price is €250 for the full week, which includes lunch, insurance, a special camp T-shirt, and participation in all activities.
Registrations are open until the end of March, and places are filling up.
Last week, the Secondary School celebrated Maths Week, with a variety of engaging lunchtime activities that encouraged creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving. Students participated in events such as a Maths Scavenger Hunt to find π, hands-on challenges in “Adventures with Pi,” and a creative Piem presentation, where poems were written to reflect the digits of π.
The week also featured a lively House Maths Quiz, where students demonstrated their mathematical thinking and teamwork while representing their houses. Maths Week concluded with a Mathletics team competition, in which students worked together to arrange the digits of π, along with a Pi(e) Bake Sale organised by IB2 students during lunch time.
Primary students also took part in the week through a range of maths challenges and games.

LAST TWO WEEKS RECAP
GRADE 4 AND 5 VISIT TO THE CBB MUSEUM
Last week, Grade 4 and 5 visited the Centro Cultural de Belém (CCB) in the Belém area of Lisbon. During the visit, students explored a variety of paintings, sculptures, and installations by famous modern and contemporary artists such as Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, Joan Miró, Salvador Dalí, and Portuguese artist Paula Rego. The visit gave students the opportunity to discover different artistic styles and learn more about modern and contemporary art.
GREEN EGGS AND HAM: WOULD YOU TRY THEM ?
To celebrate the birthday of the famous author Dr. Seuss on March 2nd, the library organised a school-wide poll asking the question: “Would you try green eggs and ham?”, inspired by his book Green Eggs and Ham. During the week, infants at nursery school were asked “what might make the food green and whether it would taste good.” The answers ranged from “Yes, they look good!” to “No, I wouldn’t try them because they look rotten!
OPEN MORNING
Our Open Morning on 13th March welcomed families from across all grades for a whole-school event. After a warm welcome from our student ambassadors, families attended a short presentation from the Head of School before enjoying a guided tour with our young interpreters from Grade 5 and High school students with the chance to step into lessons to see what happens at ULIS . A big thank you to our UPG families who attended and helped make the morning so memorable.
SCIENCE CENTRE VISIT
Our Grade 4 students visited the Science Centre at the Pavilhão do Conhecimento in Parque das Nações, Lisbon. The centre is an interactive science museum where students can explore hands-on exhibitions across areas such as physics, biology, technology and mathematics. During the visit, students experimented with interactive activities, including building circuits, exploring gravity and discovering how scientific principles work in everyday life.
CHINESE NEW YEAR
We recently celebrated Chinese New Year, the beginning of the lunar calendar and a time traditionally associated with new beginnings, family gatherings, and good fortune for the year ahead. Throughout the week, our canteen offered a selection of Chinese dishes, bringing a festive atmosphere to the school. Our IB students also sold some snacks and small items to raise funds for their upcoming Prom, helping bring the community together while supporting their initiative.
STEAM PROJECTS
STEAM education in our school uses project-based learning, where students design and build solutions to real-world problems. They apply knowledge from science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics while researching, planning, building, and improving their projects. Above are some projects students are currently working on, as well as projects from previous years.
COFFEE WITH EXD
Our recent Coffee Morning with Executive Head of School Martin Harris was a wonderful opportunity to connect with families, including many new faces in our community. Over coffee, conversations flowed easily as families shared their happiness, trust, and enthusiasm for the future of the school. Moments like these remind us how meaningful it is to come together as a community and support one another.
Our next Coffee Morning will take place on 16th April, and we look forward to welcoming more families.
MUSIC FEST
Last Saturday, we celebrated the Music Fest in the auditorium, bringing together teachers, students, and parents for a day dedicated to music and learning. The event included a teacher training session aimed at sharing new strategies and ideas for music education, alongside a series of engaging workshops designed for students and their families.
OUR STUDENTS’COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS
Shayenny Nascimento, a 10th grade student, is the founder and promoter of Amor Sem Fronteiras, an organisation dedicated to supporting and empowering children. Motivated by her deep love for children, Shayenny created this initiative with the belief that every child deserves access to quality education, a safe home, proper medical care, and nutritious food, regardless of their social background.
Through Amor Sem Fronteiras, she works closely with Escolinha da Erica and United Lisbon International School to provide essential resources for the children in their care while also building a strong and supportive community.
Shayenny recognises that children born in unsafe or conflict-affected regions often face the greatest challenges. By partnering with other organisations, Amor Sem Fronteiras hopes to reach more children and create an even greater impact.

Our Online Open Day on 22nd April will take place at 16:00 and will last approximately one hour, welcoming families interested in learning more about our school across all grades.
The session will begin with a welcome and short presentation from the Head of School, introducing United Lisbon International School and our educational vision. This will be followed by a virtual tour of the school, guided by our admissions team and phase leaders, offering insight into our learning spaces and school environment.

Young Interpreter group
The EAL Department was pleased to recently host an EAL Writing Workshop that brought together teachers from several schools across Lisbon. The workshop provided a valuable opportunity for educators to meet, exchange ideas, and discuss effective strategies for supporting students who are learning English as an Additional Language.
It was a highly collaborative and engaging event, where teachers shared classroom experiences, practical resources, and best practices from their own schools. The discussions were thoughtful and inspiring, and participants appreciated the chance to learn from one another in such an open and supportive environment.
We would also like to share that the ESOL Parent Classes will be on hold after the holidays and will resume again in September. The final class of this term will take place on March 25th. To celebrate the completion of the course, we would like to invite parents to join us for a coffee at a café across the road from ULIS. The café is a five-minute walk from the school, so we will meet at the school reception at 2:30pm and walk over together. This will be a relaxed opportunity to chat, celebrate everyone’s progress, and allow parents from the three different class levels to meet and connect. It has been wonderful to see parents gaining confidence in their English while also building friendships within our school community.
We warmly congratulate our Young Interpreter group, who played an important role during the School Open Day on March 13th. The students proudly guided tours around the school, helping new families explore the campus and learn more about life at ULIS. They did a fantastic job welcoming visitors, answering questions, and making families feel comfortable and included. The event was a great success, and we are very proud of the confidence, responsibility, and kindness shown by our Young Interpreters. Their efforts truly helped create a warm and welcoming experience for everyone who visited the school.
Announcements
We are inviting families within our school community to support our DP1 students by offering short work experience placements. This is a valuable opportunity for students to gain insight into different industries, develop professional skills, and explore potential career paths.
The placement will take place on 19th and 20th May. If you or your organisation would be willing to host one or more students for these two days, we would be extremely grateful. Students will observe day to day operations, learn about the workplace, and where possible, complete small tasks or discussions that help them understand the industry better.
